Final Thoughts – What Next?

The QCAT process can be overwhelming, but you always have a voice and choices about your future. Whatever your situation, it’s worth remembering:
Your Rights Continue After QCAT:
Your preferences, dignity, and autonomy remain at the center of all decisions made on your behalf. QCAT orders can be reviewed or challenged if your capacity, health, or circumstances change.
Support Is Available:
If you need help understanding your options, making a submission, or navigating QCAT, you can:
- Contact an advocate to help you speak up and assert your preferences. (link RIA website etc)
- Access legal aid or community legal services for legal advice or representation.
- Lean on supports you trust — friends, family, health workers — to help you through the process.
Your Future Is Yours:
Having a guardian or administrator appointed is meant to be a temporary safeguard, not a permanent state. QCAT must consider whether less restrictive options are available and regularly review orders to make sure they’re appropriate and necessary.
Stay Informed:
- Keep copies of QCAT orders, reports, and decisions.
- Ask questions if you do not understand something.
- Keep in touch with QCAT, your guardian, or your administrator if your situation or preferences change.
