6 Key Domains For Functional Capacity
The NDIS recognises 6 key domains of functional capacity. When applying for NDIS funding,
you will need to explain how each of these domains are impacted by your disability in your
daily life.

| Mobility | Using your limbs for physical activities such as standing, walking, getting in and out of bed and leaving the home |
| Communication | Expressing wants and needs through spoken, written and/or non-verbal methods, and understanding others |
| Socialising | Making and keeping friends, interacting with the community, and behaving within reasonable limits |
| Learning | Understanding and remembering information, and using new skills |
| Self-Care | Meeting personal needs, such as hygiene, grooming, feeding and health (for applicants over 2 years of age) |
| Self-Management | Organising life, such as making decisions, problem-solving, and managing finances (for applicants over 9 years of age) |
