6 Key Domains For Functional Capacity

The NDIS recognises 6 key domains of functional capacity. When applying for NDIS funding,
you will need to explain how each of these domains are impacted by your disability in your
daily life.

KEY DOMAINSAFFECTED DAILY ACTIVITIES
MobilityUsing your limbs for physical activities such as standing, walking, getting in and out of bed and leaving the home
CommunicationExpressing wants and needs through spoken, written and/or non-verbal methods, and understanding others
SocialisingMaking and keeping friends, interacting with the community, and behaving within reasonable limits
Learning Understanding and remembering information, and using new skills
Self-CareMeeting personal needs, such as hygiene, grooming, feeding and health (for applicants over 2 years of age)
Self-ManagementOrganising life, such as making decisions, problem-solving, and managing finances (for applicants over 9 years of age)
