What Is The North Queensland Community Skill Building Program Program?

The The North Queensland Community Skill Building Program is about strengthening the voice, rights, and choices of people with disabilities.

Through this program, we’re working alongside community members to co-design practical self-advocacy toolkits and resources. These tools aim to bridge knowledge gaps, break down barriers, and support individuals to take control of decisions that affect their lives – whether it’s navigating education, healthcare, housing, or the mental health system.

Each month, our The North Queensland Community Skill Building Program team travels across the region to meet with community members, gather feedback, and respond to the real issues people are facing. It’s not just outreach – it’s listening, learning, and building change together.

This is a project grounded in human rights, community connection, and lived experience – and it’s designed to leave a lasting impact.

This project is funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services as part of the The North Queensland Community Skill Building Program, and will continue through to June 2027.

Why Use These Toolkits?

Our self-advocacy toolkits are practical, easy-to-use resources designed to help people with disabilities — and those who support them — understand their rights, build confidence, and take action.

Each toolkit focuses on a key topic raised by our community and includes a downloadable PDF e-book, a short webinar, and a collection of helpful links, forms, and further information.

Whether you're navigating complex systems like education, social security, or legal decision-making, these toolkits aim to give you the knowledge and tools you need to speak up and stay in control.
