What Is The Mental Health Program?

At Rights in Action (RIA), we are dedicated to representing and advocating for individuals aged 18 years and over who are experiencing severe mental illness, whether persistent or episodic. Priority is given to consumers who do not hold an NDIS package.

The Service Type: Individual Advocacy.

The Service Model: One-to-One Support (Face-to-Face and Online).

Mental Health Review Tribunal Advice

Providing guidance and support for tribunal processes.

Support at Mental Health Review Tribunal Hearings

Assisting individuals during tribunal hearings.

Mental Health Court Advice/Representation

Offering legal advice and representation in mental health courts.

Advice for Disability Support Pension Applications

Helping individuals navigate applications for disability support pensions.

Advice for NDIS Access

Assisting with NDIS access and applications.

Referrals

Connecting individuals to additional services and resources.

Human Rights Education

Educating individuals about their human rights.

Human Rights Complaints

Supporting the filing and handling of human rights complaints.

Housing Applications

Offering guidance on housing applications.

What Is Included?

Our services are available on a short-term or issue-specific basis.

- Work with the individual experiencing a mental illness to provide one-to-one advocacy support.

- Develop a plan of action (sometimes called an individual advocacy support plan), in partnership with the individual, that outlines a defined advocacy plan and desired outcomes.

- Educate the individual about their rights and build their capacity to advocate on their own behalf.

- Speak, act, or write on behalf of the individual to represent their rights and interests, addressing instances of discrimination, abuse, and/or neglect to improve their welfare.
