What Is A Notice Of Hearing?

After you submit a guardianship or administration application to QCAT, you will receive a Notice of Hearing. This is a formal document that tells you:

  • When the hearing will take place (date and time),
  • Where it will be held — either in person at a QCAT registry, by phone, or via video link,
  • What the hearing is about — the specific matters QCAT will consider,
  • Who is expected to attend — including the person the application is about, the applicant, and any other interested parties (such as family members or service providers).

>>> The Notice of Hearing is your official invitation to participate in the tribunal process.

What you should do when you receive it
Read the notice carefully and mark the hearing date in your calendar.

  • Let QCAT know if you or the person the application is about need any support to attend (e.g. an interpreter, disability access, or legal or advocacy help).
  • Start preparing your information and evidence for the hearing. This could include supporting documents, written statements, or letters from others involved.
  • Make sure the person the application is about is aware of the hearing and has support to attend if they want to.

Tip: Even if you’re nervous or unsure, it’s important to attend the hearing. It’s a chance to share your views, ask questions, and make sure the person’s rights and preferences are considered.
